Sweet Drinks as Fuels for an Alkaline Fuel Cell with Nonprecious Catalysts

Sugar has the potential to create enough energy power mobile electronics. Various sugar-powered fuel cells have been reported, however, most of them used pure glucose as substrate and enzymes/noble metals catalysts. In this work, an alkaline cell with cheap catalysts were constructed, different sweet drinks fuels for generation. The influence substrates on electrochemical performance was characterized under controlled conditions. Our experimental results showed that fueled carbonated soft had best conditions 99.95 g/L chemical oxygen demand 3M KOH. densities decreased in order Pepsi (33.41 W/m2) > Sprite (28.38 apple juice (20.63 Coca (16.31 pear (15.31 orange (12.75 W/m2), which consistent linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis.
